Essie "Starry Starry Night"

well here's an entry i never thought i'd be making...
i saw an OPI-for-sale display in the window of a local salon today and went inside to check it out. the place seemed pretty new and it was very fancy--not a dusty by any stretch. the oldest OPIs they had were from 2005, and i didn't see anything i wanted to buy. i asked if it was okay to look at their used polishes...not to buy, just to look.
in that moment i told a lie...
i almost immediately spotted Essie "Starry Starry Night" on their polish rack. it was about 70% full. i hesitated for a few minutes before asking, sheepishly, if there was any way i could purchase it. they were a little confused at first as to why i wanted to buy a used bottle, but they said yes and charged me $4.
"Starry Starry Night", like many htf polishes i have acquired, was never one of my lemmings. i don't like to spend time wanting things i will probably never have. yet these wonderful karmic gifts keep landing in my lap and i thank the universe for them.

i see now why this polish gets so much hype. it is a dark (but not too dark) sheer blue jelly with extremely fine silver glitter. it wasn't easy for me to apply, but then again i hate skinny Essie brushes and the formula could use some thinner. it needs a good 3 coats but the layering along with a glossy topcoat gives it so much depth. it's truly stunning.

  2. This trully is a stunning polish! Gorgeous, really. And I'm with you on HTF polish, I tend not to put too much thoughts on them. Although I wouldn't mind having this one. :D

  3. Maaaaaan I am so jealous. That's exactly what I hoped Rescue Beauty Lounge's Under the Stars would dupe (and it doesn't, at all). SO DEEPLY JEALOUS. Wow.

  5. Lesley: put it at the top of your list!
Ulmiel: i think that's the way to go...less stress and more surprise!
hazakaza: hi!! yeah that RBL doesn't quite match up :( lots of people have frankened SSN and i don't think it'd be that hard. i'm going to look for some supermicroglitter!
Kendal: what can i say...the more luck i have the more i can hopefully pass on!

  6. You know, I'd never really understood why people care so much about this polish... it just seemed like any other dark blue with silver sparkle, like the ancient Claire's polish I had back in middle school. But now I get it! Your swatch is GORGEOUS and really shows off what makes this polish special. Nice find!

  8. Oooooo. If you manage to franken a decent dupe, share your formula? Or if you manage to find a good microglitter. I wonder how Under the Stars would do if diluted a bit & glittered up a lot . . . ? I'm just loath to franken with an $18 polish!

  9. I just wish I'd been into nail polish when I lived in San Diego! I'm betting San Diego has more dusties than all of South Carolina combined. XD

This polish really is beautiful, and your swatches make it even more amazing. It totally looks like .. well, a starry night.
